Seminar synopsis:
In its advisory opinion on climate change, handed down in July 2025, the International Court of Justice set out a clear pathway for future climate litigation between States. In this lecture, Harj Narulla will draw on his experience as a leading climate litigator and counsel for Solomon Islands in the ICJ proceedings to chart out the case for climate reparations. He will analyse the sources of international law that can underpin a future contentious case and will explain how reparations in the form of restitution, compensation and satisfaction can be used to secure climate justice for communities and States in the Global South.
