During London Climate Action Week 2025, Dr Eldrid Herrington, Head of Academic Engagement at CCE, took part in a roundtable about the role of international cooperation and the multilateral system in driving real-economy climate action. The event was co-organised by COP29 Climate High-Level Champions and the Nizami Ganjavi International Centre (NGIC).

The session explored key barriers and opportunities within multilateral collaboration to accelerate global progress. It spotlighted the vital contributions of Non-State Actors in the green transition, with practical examples from the COP29 High-Level Champion’s Climate-Proofing SMEs and Impact Maker campaigns. Within the discussion, Dr Herrington focused on the importance of putting science and robust analytical frameworks at the centre of climate action and decision-making.

Alongside Dr Herrington, the expert speakers were: Maria Fernanda Espinosa, President of the 73rd General Assembly of the UN; Chris Skidmore, Chair of Net Zero Review; Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic, President of Croatia (2015–2020); Paolo Rondelli, Former Captain Regent of the Republic of San Marino (2022); Csaba Korosi, President of the 77th General Assembly of the UN; Ameenah Gurib-Fakim, President of Mauritius (2015 to 2018); Hakima El Haite, President of Liberal International; Jean Baderschneider, Board of Directors, of Fortescue Ltd.; Andrew Wilson, Deputy Secretary General of Policy, International Chamber of Commerce (ICC); Jamie Fergusson, Global Director, Climate Business, IFC; Marcus Pratsch, Head of Sustainable Bonds & Finance, DZ Bank; Joseph Nganga – Founder of the Africa Climate and Energy Nexus (AfCEN); Sheela Patel, RTR Global Ambassador.
The speakers were joined by Mukhtar Babayev, COP29 President, and Nigar Arpadarai, COP29 Climate High-Level Champion. The event was moderated by Zlatko Lagumdzija, Representative of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the UN.
“At this roundtable, we saw the power of cross-sectoral, cross-regional collaboration in addressing the most challenging climate questions. With a range of expert perspectives in the room, we asked critical questions, such what can be ‘unlocked’ to speed up the transition to inclusive green economies, and how can the private sector support the multilateral processes driving this. And here, academic evidence plays a crucial role – but only if it’s translated into practical action. That’s why the mission of CCE, and events like this one, are so important.”
Dr Eldrid Herrington
