In the seventh event in the Cambridge Seminar Series on Law and the Climate Crisis, Camilla Ter Haar (39 Essex Chambers) will talk about links between construction law and climate change, with an opportunity for networking afterwards.

In this talk, Camilla will discuss the built environment and its relationship to climate change. Camilla will look at how the industry can work to reduce carbon emissions, and what might this mean for future construction disputes. The discussion will cover how the construction sector and its legal advisors are addressing the challenge including from the outset of projects when looking at contractual drafting, though to emerging issues such as: the transitional and direct risks faced by the sector, litigation risks and planning risks. Camilla will also discuss how professional obligations of construction professionals might be engaged when grappling with a changing climate, an evolving regulatory landscape, and navigating new methods and materials needed for adaptation and mitigation.

Camilla ter Haar is a barrister at 39 Essex Chambers. Camilla specialises in both domestic and international dispute resolution, with a practice spanning commercial, construction disputes and public inquiry work. Camilla is the co-host of the podcast, Construction and the Climate, co-author of Remedies in Construction Law (Routledge, 3rd Edition, 2025), co-editor of The Law of Net Zero and Nature Positive (London Publishing Partnership, 2025), and Chair of the Board of Trustees of The Klosters Forum, a Swiss-based environmental discussion forum.
