The Centre for Climate Engagement at Hughes Hall (CCE) is proud to announce a significant milestone in its journey. The Climate Governance Initiative (CGI), hosted and incubated by Hughes Hall through its Centre for Climate Engagement since 2020, has achieved remarkable growth and is now ready to expand further and spin out independently.
To facilitate this next phase of development, a new charity, the Chapter Zero Alliance (CZA), has been established to serve as the dedicated home for CGI and Chapter Zero (the UK Chapter of the global network). This transition underscores the success of Hughes Hall in nurturing innovation and highlights the College’s ongoing commitment to driving climate action through collaboration and expert engagement.
Emily Farnworth, who has been instrumental in leading CGI’s development from the start, will take on a new role as CEO of the Chapter Zero Alliance and Executive Director of CGI. She will continue to serve as a Governing Body Fellow of Hughes Hall, ensuring a close and collaborative relationship between the organisations. The CCE and CGI will formalise their ongoing collaboration through a partnership agreement, maintaining strong synergies and connections with the University of Cambridge ecosystem.
Sir Laurie Bristow, President of Hughes Hall, said:
“We are immensely proud of the growth and success of the Centre for Climate Engagement, Chapter Zero and the Climate Governance Initiative. This success reflects the College’s leadership in fostering collaboration between academia, business leaders and policy makers to address pressing global challenges. We look forward to continuing our work with the Centre for Climate Engagement, and to working with Chapter Zero Alliance to address the challenges of climate change.”
Emily Farnworth said:
“It has been a privilege to help lead development of the Climate Governance Initiative at the Centre for Climate Engagement. This transition marks an exciting new milestone for CGI and Chapter Zero, and I am thrilled to take on this new role while maintaining close ties with Hughes Hall. Together, we will continue to drive impactful action on climate governance.”
CCE will continue to focus on its core mission of building a bridge from expert insight to climate action. It will soon announce a new Director to lead and strengthen its efforts to engage academics, policymakers and legal professionals to drive climate action at local, national and international levels.
