COP30: CCE contributes to Climate Law & Governance Day

11 Nov 2025

The Climate Law and Governance Day is a global event held alongside the UNFCCC COP conferences. The Centre for Climate Engagement (CCE) will contribute to this year’s programme, with Dr Jellie Molino serving as rapporteur, and Nick Scott speaking during the sessions.

The online symposium on Friday 14 November 2025 is called The Paris Agreement at 10 – Advancing Climate Courage, Contributions & Compliance. It aims to inspire and optimise legal and institutional reform to adopt higher ambition Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement and respond with due diligence to the crucial treaty and customary obligations identified in Advisory Opinions from international courts.

The event will bring together experts, lawyers, and policymakers to share knowledge on legal and governance responses to climate change. The day features plenaries, panel discussions, and workshops aimed at increasing climate ambition and strengthening networks.

Sessions will focus on these key questions:

  • How can legal and institutional innovation accelerate the implementation of the Paris Agreement at its ten-year mark?
  • What role can climate law and governance play in scaling ambition, strengthening compliance, and ensuring accountability across all levels of society?
  • In what ways can law and justice together foster equity, resilience, and a just transition for the most climate-vulnerable communities worldwide?

Dr Jellie Molino, Research Associate at CCE, will serve as rapporteur in the opening and closing sessions and will take the lead in preparing an official report following the event.

Nick Scott, Manager of Law and Climate Action at CCE, will speak at the session Building Capacity for High Ambition NDC Implementation, which examines how legal literacy, robust frameworks, and collaboration can help turn ambition into action. He will highlight how the Law & Climate Atlas, developed by CCE and the Net Zero Lawyers Alliance, supports legal education and deepens understanding of how climate change interacts with different areas of law. His contribution comes at a timely moment, following the Atlas’s expansion on 12 November 2025 to include Brazil alongside the UK and USA.

“Lawyers from all practice areas can play a role in addressing or adapting to climate change, but to do so must understand links between complex legal issues and key climate developments. The Law & Climate Atlas is a practical resource designed to build understanding of how climate change interacts with all areas of law, helping lawyers and other professionals navigate this changing legal landscape.”

Nick Scott, Manager of Law and Climate Action at CCE

The event is online only and open to all.
