As part of the Cambridge Seminar Series on Law and the Climate Crisis 2025/26, Harj Narulla from Doughty Street Chambers will talk about Reparations and Climate Change, with an opportunity for networking afterwards.

In its advisory opinion on climate change, handed down in July 2025, the International Court of Justice set out a clear pathway for future climate litigation between States. In this lecture, Harj Narulla will draw on his experience as a leading climate litigator and counsel for Solomon Islands in the ICJ proceedings to chart out the case for climate reparations. He will analyse the sources of international law that can underpin a future contentious case and will explain how reparations in the form of restitution, compensation and satisfaction can be used to secure climate justice for communities and States in the Global South.

Harj Narulla is a barrister and leading global expert on climate law and litigation at Doughty Street Chambers and the University of Oxford.
