Launch of briefing: What to expect at COP29

05 Nov 2024

As a knowledge partner of the Climate Governance Initiative, the Centre for Climate Engagement (CCE) has written a briefing for board directors called ‘What to expect at COP29’.

Approaching the landmark 29th United Nations Climate Conference (COP29), the global climate agenda stands at a pivotal crossroads. With the 2030 deadline to reduce carbon emissions by 43% to meet Paris Agreement targets fast approaching, the call for decisive, forward-thinking leadership has never been clearer. Scheduled to take place from 11-22 November 2024, in Baku, Azerbaijan, COP29 will unite nearly 200 nations in critical discussions on progress and strategies for a just, sustainable transition.

The CCE briefing for the Climate Governance Initiative offers board directors an essential preview of COP29’s priorities and implications. In this era of climate urgency, board leaders have a central role to play—not only in guiding compliance with evolving regulations but in positioning their organisations to thrive in a sustainable, low-carbon economy.

Director of the CCE, Emily Farnworth said:

“COP29 represents a key opportunity for boards to refine their strategies in alignment with global climate goals, respond to the latest climate-related risks, and leverage new growth opportunities within emerging sustainable markets. The briefing provides insight into how corporate boards can navigate the rapidly shifting climate landscape and drive positive change.”
